Welcome back, Insiders!
If AI were like fashion, this spring would reveal the robot collection. New from the Open AI line is Figure 01, from Nvidia, Project GROOT, and though not exactly new, Boston Dynamics’, Atlas is back in the spotlight proving to be more capable than ever.
These humanoid robots (robots that look, move, and speak like humans) are a natural progression from incredible AI advancements, but the fact that they are so good so soon is 🤯.
It’s no wonder Mr. Musk went on the record saying AI will surpass human intelligence by 2029. (That’s 5 years. For context, it took over a decade before dial-up internet fully transitioned to broadband.) Musk tends to say some outrageous things but five years ago, we thought upgrading to 5G was impressive. 😂
AI is no longer “someday,” “nice to have,” or “not useful in my industry.” It’s moving faster than any technological advancement in history. ⚡ Nearly every job is getting an AI makeover: Amazon sellers, number crunchers, and even software engineers. (And now, thanks to the University of Pennsylvania, you can even get a bachelor’s degree in AI.)
The question is no longer if AI can be applied to your industry but how –even for those who don’t sit in front of a computer. For industries like retail or industrial where work happens in busy stores and restaurants, sprawling factories, large warehouses, or remote mines, Vision AI is a powerful tool providing real-time visual data. This data is invaluable in making immediate operational improvements but can also enhance other AI analytics tools you’re using. 💪
Because it acts as an extra set of eyes, Vision AI is highly practical for industries with historically limited visibility. The real-time visual data can be used to identify bottlenecks, uncover inefficiencies, limit unnecessary downtime, and analyze trends to increase productivity. 👀
Whether you are on the AI train or scratching your head at the station, we’re here to help. This week’s Insider is focused on computer vision for retail. But if you’re looking for more or how we work in other industries, be sure to join our LinkedIn community where we share insights on AI with a focus on practicality. Bring your questions, share your thoughts, or just say hello. 👋
And if you know of an AI tool that can pick a winning March Madness bracket, let me know! 🤖 🏀

2024 AI Predictions: Multimodal AI
Humans are multi-modal (we can understand, analyze, and create information from different types of data inputs like text, images, audio, and video), so AI also has to be multi-modal. We’re extending our Vision AI platform to be able to handle other modes of input like sound and text to bring even more practical value to real-time data and actionable insights.
