Welcome back, Insiders!
I may be dating myself but in 1989, Back to the Future II was released. In it, Marty McFly travels to the then-distant future – 2015 – filled with fun futuristic technology like a size-adjustable, self-drying jacket, hoverboards, and most notably, flying cars. To a kid in the 80s, it felt like a no-brainer. Flying cars, of course! 🚗 🚀
Or not. Predictions – especially those about technology – are fun to discuss but nearly impossible to get exactly right. The internet and smartphones do not feature in McFly’s 2015.
Still, we can’t help ourselves. When there are so many astounding advancements, it’s nearly impossible not to speculate what the future holds.
💭 Just last week, Neuralink released this video of Noland Arbaugh (who is quadriplegic) playing chess using only his mind.
😳 OpenAI debuted voice cloning capabilities (using only a 15-second recording) but acknowledged it to be too risky for public use.
🤖 Roscoe the robot got shot helping police search the home of an armed subject.
🔫 New York is testing AI gun detectors in subways.
🚫 Jensen Huang predicts the job of programmer will be obsolete.
🎓 Instead, kids can enroll in the University of South Florida’s first-of-its-kind college of artificial intelligence.
In the AI age, it can be tempting to get lost in what could be. Are we headed for an AI apocalypse? What does AI mean for the future of work? Will AI overrun Hollywood?
Not to get too meta, but as it turns out, AI can predict the future better than humans.
So here’s your bi-weekly reminder to keep a healthy balance of what's a reality today and what may be possible in the future. For alwaysAI, that’s focusing (😉) on cutting-edge, Practical AI that provides industries with unprecedented, real-time, visual data to improve operations.
Read below about very real, very pressing problems enterprises face and how Vision AI can help solve these issues. For the industrial sector, it means helping with defect detection and quality control issues. For retailers, it’s helping detect theft and other causes of inventory shrink.
You can also read about the importance of remote management for AI applications and learn more about how alwaysAI balances what is possible today with what is coming in the future by continuing to refine and advance our capabilities to meet future needs.
And for my fellow McFly fans? Flying cars are here. 🙌💥
