Hey alwaysAI Insiders,

I’ve been haunted by something recently — and no, it’s not just Halloween 🎃. I’m talking about the stigma around AI.

Picture this: I’m at a pumpkin-carving contest this weekend, and someone carves “AI” into their pumpkin because “AI is scary.” It got me thinking — is AI really the villain people make it out to be, or is it just misunderstood?

Here’s a relatable example: Recently, I was chatting with a friend who needed help drafting a message for a tricky conversation. I suggested trying one of those AI-driven advice tools — essentially a digital “second opinion” — but the suggestion got an instant “ick” reaction. AI advice? Nope, too weird, even “cheating,” they said.

But think about it: We already get guidance from friends, advisors, or the internet, so why the hesitation around AI? There seems to be a stigma that makes it feel like an unnatural shortcut, as if we’re somehow less capable if we rely on it.

Here’s my take: Using AI isn’t cheating — it’s efficient. Think of AI as a smart tool that enhances what we’re already doing, just like calculators for math or GPS for directions. AI can speed things up, offer insights we might miss, or even help us think through complex problems. Far from a shortcut that undercuts our effort, it’s a valuable helper that supports our work.

So this Halloween, let’s break out our ghostbuster gear and start dispelling some AI myths. Despite the stigma, AI — specifically computer vision — is already making a significant impact across industries like mining, manufacturing, and retail. It’s not the villain; it’s solving real-world challenges and making our lives safer and more efficient. From detecting PPE to ensure worker safety, spotting anomalies on production lines to maintain quality, and tracking inventory in real-time to prevent stockouts, computer vision is here to help.

Next time someone’s “spooked” by AI, remind them that it’s a practical tool that improves our lives and businesses.
